Hello,
For security reasons, the work realised on the server is not available.
With ZyGrib, this was exactly for the same reason that the source code of the server activity has never been put open to the public.
The XyGrib server code has been started from zero and is not a fork from ZyGrib, as it is the case for the client side.

Hi,

I must respectfully (because it's your work and nobody can steal it away from you) yet strongly disagree.
You're saying that security by obscurity is a good thing. It's not, and I don't think I need to make the case for it here as it's abundantly documented on the internet. I think you'd benefit a lot from having the source code opened to the community for scrutiny.

If it makes any difference, I'm not actually really interested in the software that handle requests from the clients. I'm only interested in the tools that are used to merge, crop and manipulate grib files.

Best regards,
F.

Hello,
I was not saying that I agree or disagree. I was just sumarizing the position of the developper of ZyGrib. I had this discussion with him and even if he agreed that hiding the code of the server side was not the best solution, he had no time to clean the code, as he patched it a lot after number of server's attacks.
I do not know how things will go in the future, but the first priority of the team was to set up the new server and to have new models on-the-fly.

Hi François,

I have no problem sharing the code that processes the Grib files both for pre-processing and for on-the-fly and am happy to help. This can be completely transparent and we are happy to have any input regarding improvements
Just mail me at my gmail address using sy.wild.silk.

Regarding the discussion on server security, I do not fully agree with you. True that obscurity is not a watertight solution but open request routines is a blatant invitation for focused malicious activity. We deal with thousands of break-in attempts every month as it is and there is no need to solicit more.

Best,
David

Resources on this site will always be free and open with no commercialization. However, operating costs of the servers to pre-process and deliver GRIB files to XyGrib are not trivial.
