Suggetion: convergence, divergence, vorticity, Q-vectors... 6 years 1 month ago #226

Hello,

Now that we have XyGrib working I would like to suggest some new fatures that I think would significantly improve the program, particularly for those using it to learn and/or teach Meteorology. I alredy made this suggestion to zyGrib developers a few years ago...

Since you have wind vectors at any level it should be possible to compute and plot maps of convergence, divergence and relative and absolute vorticity at every atmospheric level using finite differencing of u and v (the horizontal wind components) and adding the planetary vorticityy to the relative vorticity computed to obtain in that way the absolute one. That would be very hepful to complete the picture of the atmosphere that XyGrib already provides. And that picture would be even more complete if maps of Q-vectors divergence could be plotted for different levels of the atmosphere.

Thanks again for your continuos efforts with this wonderful program.

Hi,

The suggestion to add computation and display of convergence/divergence, vorticity and Q-Vectors is heartily accepted. Implementation is an issue of priorities and available programming contributors.

I have added these suggestions to the development road-map which is located on our github wikigithub wiki .

Thanks,
David
