Hello All,

I don't succeed to install Xygrib because the installer request my password to authenticate 'sudo' and when I type it, it doesn't take it. I don't understand why.
I am under LinuxMint 19.1
Can you help me please.
Thanks for that

Hi,
I can suggest to make sure that you are in the correct keyboard language and not in CAPs etc.
Please check if you can enter sudo privileges in other applications (try sudo su in a terminal).
Additionally please check if your sudo password includes any special characters such as an accent or umlaut. If so this may be the problem. Try changing your sudo password to one with plain ASCII characters before installing XyGrib.
You can also start the installer from a terminal where you have root privileges (sudo su). This should bypass the password request.

In the mean time I will check XyGrib in Linux Mint as I think that this has not yet been done.

Thanks a lot, you were true. The installer is running well and I get XyGrib now.
I had special characters in my password. No problem with terminal in LinuxMint, but problem with XyGrib installer which refused it. So I have changed my password for normal characters and all is good now. Just need to try XyGrib.
Thank you.

OK...
I tried Mint and there is indeed an issue with the sudo password even without special characters. This appears to be a MINT issue however, I have a simple solution.
Please do not try to install from a terminal in root privileges as this will locate the static data files outside of your user area and then as a regular user XyGrib will not find the data files.

The following worked for me.
When asked for the sudo password do not click the OK button but hit enter instead. This may be needed twice. Mint took the password and continued the installation and all worked ok.
Please note that the password widget that is shown is not part of XyGrib installer but provided by the operating system desktop.

Best,
David
