Bonjour,

Hello and thanks for your kind words.

Unfortunately the XyGrib grib server will not be providing grib1 format files. Our server resources are limited and providing grib1 files for third party software is not a priority. The server is planned primarily to support gribs for use in XyGrib itself. In addition we should be facing forward and promoting the use of grib2 as grib1 will soon be obsolete.

Regarding Timezero, I suggest using openWRF gribs which are recommended gribs and they are still in grib1 format, See and article by Timezero at blog.mytimezero.com/how-to-import-grib-files-into-timezero/

I hope this helps you.

Hello David,

It's a pity!
I know openWRF gribs but their files are unusable when sailing with low speed connection such as Iridium or HF.
Best regards,
Alain

Hello,
If you want to get data via HF or Iridium, the best solution is to require files via saildocs and the data of the GFS model are provided in grib 1 format. This will give much smaller files and you can ask them by mail which is not possible from opengribs server.
See in the forum, there are more explanation about getting grib files via email.

Hello DomH,
I know of course Saildocs system but my experience with Iridium is that the total time spent (request plus response) is longer than a direct inquiry on zygrib.
The file size is the same for gribs, there is a big difference for maps thanks to a lower resolution.
Best regards,
Alain

I was using grib by mail of Zygrib that is not working anymore. I have got a look at saildocs and it is OK except for WAVES. I receive only the significant wave height. Is there a solution to receive more information about waves (direction, max ...)
